How to Prepare for Competitive Exams


Competitive exams have become a strict norm for selection to various professional courses in India. Competitive entrance exams are taken because the number of students applying for admissions is much more as compared to the number of seats. Thus, students have to face tough competition in order to get admission into reputed educational institution.

Success in Competitive exams brings immense glory and confidence to the individuals, besides giving them a clear cut break into the career line of their choice. Preparing for competitive exam is completely different from your regular exams. The entrance exams mode requires a drastic change in strategy and orientation for students compared to the board exams. Most of them are objective type. This needs a little bit of reorientation in the test taking approach. Cracking entrance exams is all about dedicated practice on test types that are relevant, followed by revision tests and feedback.

Competitive Exam preparation tips:

1. The candidate preparing for Competitive exam should always have positive attitude, determination and motivation. The preparation without a high level of aim or motivation can not be succeed. 3. You should make a balance between your study and playing time. Whatever hours you are devoting to your studies that must be sufficient if your concentration level in these hours are very high.

4. Selection of right study material is key to success in Competitive exam. One should not go for shortcuts. Instead, try to understand the chapters / concepts in detail and practice sufficient number of questions. Therefore go for standard textbooks, study materials provided, as various correspondence courses and other coaching institutions serve as supplementary and complementary material to the textbook material.

6. Students preparing for competitive examinations are recommended to read the appropriate chapters from the text books and then to asses themselves using the Multiple Choice Questions. 14. Avoid heavy oily food just before exam – your brain will concentrate on digestion not on your question paper. Take more vegetables and fresh water like green leaves, carrots etc. which will decrease your eyestrain and sharpen your memory.

15. It is very important that your mind should be sharp to face competitive exams. If you go through the things with sharp mind you can understand the concepts clearly. You can get your normal mind to sharpen, by giving excise to your brain regularly by solving crossword puzzles, Maths puzzles, reasoning aptitudes etc.

16. While practicing and also during the exam, a student must always pay attention to his speed i.e. how fast and accurately he can solve the questions. It is advisable not to spend too much time on a single question. If he is not able to solve that question in a particular time limit, he should leave the question and move ahead.
