In order to get admission in M.Tech the examination that holds significant importance on national as well as international level is GATE. Those seeking admission in post-graduation programmes in reputed engineering colleges and institutes in India, you need to crack GATE.

GATE is Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is an All-India examination that holds high significant and is conducted in eight zones across India by the GATE committee. The main objective of GATE test is to identify the quality of students and assess their potential to continue higher education. By conducting GATE, it becomes easy to evaluate the students on the required skill scale and consistency to pursue higher studies in the field of engineering.

GATE is considered as one of the toughest entrance exams of the country. To excel in the exam, you need to prepare well and your basics of engineering should be very clear. You will be asked many questions on basic concepts of engineering and innovations.

The questions of GATE are usually the derivation of fundamentals and preparation of GATE is an ongoing process and is supposed to take place in varied stages. Prepare your best with the fundamentals and then test yourself those fundamentals.

Guidelines for GATE exam preparation:

1 Check the latest syllabus and paper pattern before you start preparing for GATE exam.

2. Ensure and track your progress through a set of tests and evaluation as this is the most crucial part of the GATE exam preparation. This is the main area where the students fail due to lack of essential test and evaluation material.

3. Keep contact with some expert and GATE experienced persons.

4. It is important while preparing for GATE exam you read books written by various authors on various topics. Reading and preparing from one books or two books is not sufficient to crack the exam. So it is really important that you prepare for GATE exam from different books which cater your needs. The study material of the books should be unique so it will add value to your knowledge not just repetition of what you already know.

5. Try to solve the tricky questions. Rather than solving simple questions and wasting your time, it is better that you spend more time on solving concept based questions for GATE exam preparation.

6. To understand the pattern of the exam and get familiar with it, aspirants should solve the previous year’s papers of GATE exam. It will also brushes up your basic concepts and exposes you to real exam pattern.

7. Solve mock papers to understand the basic concepts. Mock test will give you the image of real paper and make you aware about what type of question will be asked in the exam. So try to solve as much papers as you can.

8. Study thoroughly Syllabus of Any Engineering Field in which you are applying for GATE exam.

9. Try to cover complete syllabus. If not possible be perfect in whatever portion of syllabus you practice. To start the preparations go for the topics which are easy to you and then move towards the tough one.

10. Prepare notes after finishing every chapter. This will help you during your last days of revision. You can also prepare running notes in the coaching classes. Self made notes for GATE are always beneficial than readymade notes because it increases your understanding.

11. Avoid reading from soft copies, since students to search and download soft copies of GATE books and notes. These copies can easily be found downloaded and shareable among others. But the disadvantage with soft copies is that you will read them on computer and can be easily distracted to other things like music, videos, internet etc.

So it is always beneficial to make a hard copy of the important pages and avoid computer to concentrate well on the desired subject. You can also write down some important points if don’t want to have printed copy.

12. Analyze your score in model test papers and compare your performance periodically to see how you improve is very important.

13. Finish detailed reading at least one and half month before. Keep one month for revisions and clearing leftover doubts. Have a look of question you solved during preparation for GATE Exam.
