Tips to Minimize Negative Marking in Bank Exams


Negative marking is a seen in almost every competitive exam these days. The negative marks are awarded to each and every wrong answer and ranges from 0.25 to 0.50 marks deduction. Negative marks are part of almost every competitive exam to make sure that majority of unprepared candidates are filtered out in the first phase itself. So, negative marks are integral part of every bank exam and they are unavoidable if proper planning is not done to minimize them.

Candidate who have taken bank exam previously knows the way to deal with negative marking through tried and tested outcomes of thoughtlessly ticking answers; a candidate who is taking the exam for the first time needs to take care of the methods to evade extreme negative marks.

1. First, don’t guess answer blindly, when you are not sure of majority of questions in a particular section. In such a case, if you do not take calculated risks than you will not cross the threshold for that section. his will get you eliminated straight away without leaving any hope, you have to make sure that you attempt at least 70% questions in every section.

5. Do not get stuck with questions you are not sure of as exam like bank PO has 225 questions that needs to be answered within 135 minutes leaving 36 seconds spent per question. Proceed to next question as soon as possible and come back if you have time.

6. Analyzing the previous question papers will help the candidate to get a clear picture of the pattern of questions asked in each section.

7. The candidate appearing for bank exam must read the question carefully to avoid marking answers thoughtlessly.

8. Be cool and calm while writing exam. Getting tensed on an unknown question or hurrying to complete the exam soon, contribute to negative marks largely.

9. Answer the question that you are confident of being correct, rather than getting stuck with a question and wasting time trying to answer it.

10. Avoid overwriting or erasing answers as it would be difficult for computers to read OMR sheets as improper erasing marks will be calculated as wrong answers leading to negative marks.

11. The ideal solution for minimizing the negative marks in bank exam is to be very precise in approach which allows the examiner to understand your position properly and even if the paper is not well answered, the examiner will believe that the candidate has a fair approach and his answers are not vague.
