Acharya Vinoba Bhave was the first Indian to win the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 1958. Acharya Vinoba Bhave is considered as spiritual successor of Mahatma Gandhi and is regarded as the National Teacher of India. Vinoba Bhave is well known for the Bhoodan Movement (Land Gift Movement). Ramon Magsaysay Award, established in 1957, is regarded as the Asia's Nobel Prize. The award was introduced in honour of Ramon Magsaysay, the former President of Philippines. Magsaysay Award is given in six different fields, and Vinoba Bhave was awarded for Community Leadership.
