Thrippadi Danam by Marthanda Varma was one of the important events in Kerala History. By Trippadidanam ritual, Travancore Maharaja Anizham Thirunal Marthanda Varma "surrendered" his kingdom to their family deity Sree Padmanabhaswamy of Sree Anantha Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram. After Trippadidanam, Marthanda Varma pledged that he and his descendants will serve the kingdom as Padmanabha Dasa or Servants of Sree Padmanabha.
