Rajyasamacharam First Malayalam Newspaper in Kerala

Rajyasamacharam or Rajya Samacharam is the first Malayalam Newspaper published in Kerala. Rajyasamacharam was a religious journal started by Dr. Herman Gundert in 1847. First started publishing from Illikkunnu (Illikunnel), in Thalassery, in Kannur District of Kerala, Rajyasamacharam newspaper appeared regularly until December 1850.

About Herman Gundert 

Dr. Hermann Gundert was a famous German scholar and missionary who is noted for his outstanding contribution towards Malayalam language. Gundert compiled a Malayalam grammar book Malayalabhaasha Vyakaranam in 1859, the first Malayalam - English dictionary in 1872 and also translated the Bible into Malayalam language.
