East Flowing Rivers of Kerala Kabani Bhavani Pambar


There are three east flowing rivers in Kerala – Kabani River, Bhavani River and Pambar River. Kerala state has a total of 44 rivers and out of the 41 rivers flows westward and the remaining three of them flows to East. Kabani or Kabini River flows east into Karnataka state while Bhavani River and Pambar River flows into Tamil Nadu state in India.

Kabani River

Also known as Kabini or Kapila, Kabani river this is one of the main East flowing Kerala River. Kabani river originates in Wayanad district, and flows eastward to join Kaveri River in Karnataka. The Banasura Sagar Dam is built over a tributary of the Kabini River.

Bhavani River

Bhavani River is a major tributary of the Kaveri River (Cauvery River), and the second largest river in Tamilnadu. Originating from originates in the upper regions of the Nilgiris of the Western Ghats, Bhavani River flows through the Attappady valley of Palakkad District and flows east into the nearby state of Tamilnadu. 

Pambar River

One of the three east flowing rivers of Kerala, Pambar River originates from the highest peak in the Western Ghats and South India - Anaimudi Hills or Anamudi Peak. Pambar River flows through Idukki District of Kerala and flows eastward to Tamil Nadu.
