Aftereffects of Bhopal Gas Tragedy

Around half million people was badly affected by Bhopal disaster. Among this around 2,00, 00 were children, below 15 years of age. Some died after the disaster and many children were permanently disabled. Around 3,000 pregnant women, many suffered miscarriages and some delivered deformed babies. It is reported that a large number of people affected with long-term health problems including respiratory difficulties, eye problems, neurological diseases and so on.
Following the Bhopal disaster, Union Carbide agrees to pay a settlement of $450 million. Compensation was paid to the people suffering from injuries and to survivors of those killed. There are many legal and criminal cases regarding this tragedy is pending on Bhopal district court and US district court. Recently on 7th June 2010, seven employees including UC chairman were convicted guilty and sentenced them to two years imprisonment and imposed a fine.
