Alam Ara First Indian Sound Film 1931

Alam Ara was the first Indian Sound Film released on 14th March 1931. Alam Ara, which literally means “The Light of the World”, was directed by Ardeshir Irani and produced by Imperial Movietone. Alam Ara movie was first screened at the Majestic Cinema in Mumbai, India on 14th March 1931.

Alam Ara was a Hindi movie which starred Master Vithal, Zubeida Begum Dhanrajgir, Jilloo, Sushila, Prithviraj Kapoor in the lead roles. 

Alam Ara was written by Joseph David; Music by Ferozshah M. Mistri and B. Irani; Cinematography by Wilford Deming and Adi M. Irani; Editing by Ezra Mir. 

Original prints of Alam Ara film were destroyed and lost in 2003 after the fire at the National Film Archive of India (NFAI) in Pune, Maharashtra.
