Level of Competition
This is the most competitive examination in India.About two lakh candidates will appear for the prelims examination for just 700 to 800 posts. This indicates the competition the examination has. In the examination, you have to compete with the gold medalists in the universities, state toppers in the 10th, 11th and 12th classes. So, an ordinary candidate has to workhard a lot to come out with flying colours in the examination. While preparing for the examination you have to remember that you are competing with the persons who have been writing the examination for over a decade or more. Finally, you should also remember that the success in the examination is not the trademark of those gold medalists or state toppers. There are some candidates who were successful in the examination with poor performance in their degree course. It is the hardwork finally that matters. Prepare with dedication adding proper planning to it.
How to start the preparation?
If you have the intention of writing the IAS examination, infact, you have to start the preparation actually from the first year of your degree. From the first year, you have to start the preparation for the toughest competitive examination in the country by reading the prominent newspapers of english and your mothertongue to get perfection in the current affairs.if you do this, you can be perfect in the current affairs part by the time you complete your graduation. Then you can concentrate on other subjects of the examination. It would be better if can be perfect in the english language. Be perfect with the subjects in your graduation so that there may be the chances of taking them as the optionals in the examination. However, actively participate in the extra curricular activities while in the college so that you can acquire the leadership qualities gradually. Further, study the NCERT books of classes 11 and 12 for the subjects of history, economics, politics, geography, science and technology, biology, etc while studying the degree course
Revision is over?
The mains examination is only a few days away from now. And i think all the candidates might have completed the revision of all the papers by this time. Now, the strategy of the candidates should be such that the revision of the subjects for which the examination takes place later in the schedule must be stopped for present. The revision of those papers for which the examination takes place in the initial days of the schedule must be done now. As the mains papers are already set by this time, reading newspapers and watching television may not be needed. But, what the candidates have to keep in mind is that if you have time, please do these things. Because, some points of the current affairs may be useful for answering some questions in General Studies and Essay papers. Be confident and free from any kind of stress. All the best.
How many hours to study?
How many hours of study is needed to clear the examination is one of the questions that haunt the candidates. The number of hours does not matter. What matters finally is how many hours you study with concentration. However, as the syllabus is huge, the number of papers you have to answer are not few, you are advised to study for atleast 11 hours in a day. Further, you have to study too many things in a day. Starting with the newspapers, watching the current affairs programs in television channels, you have to study the topics in general studies , two optional subjects and language papers. So,sufficient number of study hours are needed inorder to be at an edge over the other candidates.
All the Best
