Now, shoes synced with Google maps to vibrate and give directions
Indian tech firm Ducere Technologies has created 'Lechal Shoes' which would be synced with Google Maps to give directions to the user by vibrating the left or the right shoe.
The Ducere team have expanded the product to include a range of fitness applications like monitoring distanced travelled and calories. But it's also useful for the bikers and joggers who need quick access to directions without having to look at their phones.
Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, co-founder Krispian Lawrence said, "The shoes are a natural extension of the human body. You will leave your house without your watch or wristband, but you will never leave your house without your shoes."
The shoes and the Insole sport a rechargeable battery mounted into the very back of the insole or behind the heel of the shoes, and the charger, which is designed to give audio feedback as to its charging levels when you snap your fingers, has been dubbed as the "world's first interactive charger".
The shoes and the removable insoles that contain the technology are compatible with both iPhone and Android and should be available for between $100 and $150 this September.
The shoes, which would sync by Bluetooth to an app that pulls your path from Google Maps, would buzz to inform the user about which direction to turn, CNET reported.
Wired reported that the shoe and accompanying app learnt your tastes by monitoring your daily habits and online activity. It also recommended places to go, depending on your mood, and directed you to the destination via vibration. To select a destination, you can tap your toes on a touchpad in the sole or simply swipe your phone screen.
