Railgate: BJP protests outside CBI office
The BJP workers were demonstrating against Chandigarh's CBI Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Mahesh Aggarwal for allegedly delaying the raid at former Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal's nephew Vijay Singla's residence in connection with the railway bribery case.
The protesters reportedly clashed with the police.
The police used water canons to disperse the protesters as they were marching towards the CBI office here which left at least ten BJP workers injured.
BJP leader Harmohan Dhawan alleged that Aggarwal had leaked the information about Delhi CBI team's raid at Singla's residence in connection to the railway scam.
Meanwhile, a CBI officer has submitted an affidavit before the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) on May 15 where he alleged that Aggarwal, who has close family links to Bansal, leaked important information on CBI team's raid at Singla's residence earlier this month.
Inspector Balbir Singh alleged that Aggarwal tried to influence probe in two cases which involved Bansal’s relatives and aides besides attempting to derail the investigation in the railway scam.
Bansal's nephew Singla was arrested for accepting a Rs 90 lakh bribe in exchange for a top job on the Railways Board to senior Railway official Mahesh Kumar.
Bansal stepped down from the chair on May 10 following graft charges.
