It was a free for all meeting between the Congress party’s office bearers and Rahul Gandhi at the party’s Mumbai office, Tilak Bhavan, on Friday.
While some office bearers criticised the All India Congress Committee general secretary in charge of Maharashtra, Mohan Prakash; others voiced their opposition to the importance given to recent entrants in the party, particularly former deputy mayor Rajesh Sharma and others from BJP-RSS. Simultaneously, there was also an obvious whisper campaign against chief minister Prithviraj Chavan.
Senior vice-president of the Mumbai Region Congress Committee, Vasant Nanaware, alleged that Mohan Prakash had socialist leanings and that he was a follower of Jaiprakash Narayan, who had opposed Indira Gandhi’s politics. Nanaware is said to have told Rahul that Prakash has been unsuccessful in disciplining the party’s state ranks. Nanaware also said an office bearer who was involved in a scam and is now out on parole was part of the delegation.
To all these allegations, Rahul said “rubber stamp leaders” wont be allowed in the party and only those who work for the party would be given positions. He also said that those who work against the party will not be given tickets.
Earlier in the day, a Congress office bearer is said to have complained about the importance given to former deputy mayor, while Kunika Lall, actress and Congress party office bearer, complained about women activists being sidelined.
A block party president pointed out that the Dharavi project was stalled due to the CM’s inaction.
