Former Indian skipper Ravi Shastri has said cricket maestro Sachin Tendulkar is set to prove his genius in one last series against Australia, to lead India to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
The former opener said he had detected a renewed sense of determination in the Master Blaster, to star in what may be the final act in his career, and warned the Australian bowlers to get ready for a depressing six weeks on the subcontinent, theSydney Morning Herald reports.
According to Shastri, Tendulkar is eager to make a comeback from a long slump in his form, and added that although he may be nervous, he will be able to make a mark in this series if he can score a 50, 60 or 70 against Australia in the first two Test matches.
Shastri further said with the break that Tendulkar had for a couple of months, he is ready to make a comeback with a bang, and added that for that to happen, the Master Blaster has to play his natural game. Shastri also said he wanted Tendulkar to be positive and not get into a defensive mode.
Tendulkar will enter the series starting on Friday with two centuries from his past five first-class innings, including an unbeaten 140. There is speculation in the sub-continent that the upcoming series will be Tendulkar's last before he bows out of international cricket, the paper added.
