About Yercaud
Yercaud is a hill station situated in Salem, Tamil Nadu, India at an altitude of 4,921 feet from main sea level, in the Servarayan range of hills in the Eastern Ghats. Yercaud means land of lakes and forests.
This place is known for coffee plantation and orange orchards. The other crop plants which are grown here include jack fruit, guava and spices such as black pepper and cardamom. Sandalwood, teak and silver oak are also present in great quantity. This is a beautiful place with cool climate, therefore became a place of tourist attraction. The weather is never hot during summers and never too cold during winters, because of that weather remains well-controlled through out the year. This place has various indigenous species of plants and animals. Wild life includes bison, deer, ant-eater, rabbits, hares, foxes, mongoose, squirrels, partridges, snakes, bulbuls, kites, sparrows, swallows and the bird of paradise.
