About Matheran

Matheran is a hill station in Raigarh, Maharashtra, India at an altitude of about 2,625 feet above sea level, on the Western Ghats range. This place was discovered in May 1850, by the district collector of Thane district, Hugh Poyntz Malet. Governor of Bombay, Lord Elphinstone laid the foundations of the hill station. It is a popular holiday spot to breathe in the fresh air and escape the heat of the city. This place has a huge number of medicinal plants and herbs.

The main attractions of this place are Sunset Point, Lord's Point, Monkey Point, and Honeymoon Point. There are altogether 28 points, 2 lakes, 2 parks, 4 major worship place and a racecourse to visit inside Matheran.
