About Lonavla

Lonavla is a hill station in Pune, Maharashtra, India at an altitude of 622 metres above sea level. It is a popular holiday spot during monsoon season. The name Lonavala is derived from the Sanskrit lonavli, which give reference to the many caves like Karla Caves, Bhaja Caves and Bedsa that are close to Lonavala. The Governor of the Bombay Presidency, Sir Elphinstone found this place in 1871. The hill station is spread over an area of 38 square km.

The other places of attraction near lonavla are Rajmachi Point, Ryewood Park & Shivaji Udyan, Tungarli Lake, Lonavala Lake, Valvan Dam, Duke's Nose, Tiger's Leap, Karla Caves, I.N.S. Shivaji, Lohagad Fort, Bhushi Dam and Lion's Point.
