An ex-armyman shot dead his three minor daughters and injured his wife following a family dispute in Maat area of Mathura district on Wednesday. He was arrested.
Mathura Senior Superintendent of Police NR Padamja said the exact motive behind the crime is not known as the accused remained tight-lipped during questioning after his arrest. His wife is critical and was not in a condition to talk, she added.
Additional SP, Rural, Anil Kumar Rai said that Mahesh Singh, who retired from the army about two-and-a-half-years ago, shot his daughters Chandni (7), Kajal (5) and Vineeta (3) with his licenced double-barrel gun and then fired at his wife Sohan Heeri (35) around noon.
While the children died on the spot, the woman suffered gunshot injury on her stomach.
