The tryst of Skoda Auto with India began in the year 2001 (more precisely, on November 16, 2001), when it entered the Indian market. The company began at Shendra, the outskirts of Aurangabad. It was Skoda's first manufacturing unit in Asia. Today, it is Skoda's registered head office in India. Skoda has received a great response in the Indian market and this is why its business has expanded to a great extent in the last eight years.
Known for the stylish exterior and classy outlook of its cars, Skoda Auto is also famous for its constant effort to come up with modern technologies. Till date, twelve luxury cars of Skoda have entered the market and all of them have received great response. In 2005, the company’s annum share in the luxury car market in India was estimated to be more than 25 %. In 2005, Skoda set up a vast network of 41 dealerships, equipped with 35 facilities, across the country. The total sale of the year was about 27,000.
The year 2006 also proved to be quite lucky for Skoda Auto in India. It was in this year only that Skoda Laura was awarded 'Most Technologically Advanced Car' and Skoda Superb Turbo Diesel was named 'Best Variant', by CNBC-TV18 Autocar Awards. The company also received 'Executive Car of the Year' award from NDTV Profit Car India and 'Automotive Technology of the Year' award from Overdrive, both for Skoda Laura.
