Manali is a hill station located in the Indian State of Himachal Pradesh near Kullu Valley. It is a popular tourist center for residents as well as foreigners. The domestic tourists visits here to enjoy the scenic beauty of the nature, mountains, snow covered regions and the beautiful Beas river while foreigners visits for adventure spots. It is one of the best place for newly wedds to enjoy their honeymoons. The place is situated on the Beas river and is covered with snow during winter season.


The place Manali is named after the Hindu Lawgiver Manu. The word Manali is regarded as the changed name of “Manu-Alaya” which literally means “the abode of Manu”. Legend has it that sage Manu stepped off his ark in Manali to recreate human life after a great flood had deluged the world. Manali is also often referred to as the “Valley of the Gods”. The Old Manali village has an ancient temple dedicated to sage Manu.

Jagat sukh – 6 Kms and the place is famous for old Shiva Temples.
Arjun Gufa – 4 Kms and provides a beautiful mountain view to visitors
Rahala water falls – is about 16 kms and is on the way to Rohtang pass which is 51 kms.
Solang valley – 13 kms and the valley is gives a senery of glaciers, snow capped mountains and peaks.
Nehru kund – 5 kms
Mountaineering Institute, Manali – It is located 3 km from the bank of river Beas towards Kullu.
Manu temple – The temple is 3 kms from Manali. It is belived to be the one and only temple of Manu Rishi, who was the creator of human race on the earth.
Hadimba temple – The Dhoongri Temple is one of the popular tourist attractions in Manali. The temple is dedicated to goddess Hidimba and is located about 2.5 kms from the tourist office.
Great Himalayan National Park – The Park is located in Kullu District.
Manali sanctury – It is about 2 km from Manali town.
How to Reach
By Air
The nearest airport is Kullu-Manali airport at Bhuntar town. A Daily fight service except Tuesday has been started by Air India from Delhi to Bhunter and vice-versa. The nearest international airport is Chandigarh airport.
By Road
Manali can be reached from Delhi by NH 1 up to Chandigarh and from there by NH21. The road distance from Delhi to Chandigarh is 260 km and from Chandigarh to Manali is 273 km. The total road distance from Delhi to Manali is 533 km.
By Train
Manali is not easily approachable by rail. The nearest broad gauge railheads are at Chandigarh, Pathankot and Kalka. The nearest narrow gauge railhead is at Joginder Nagar.
