Mera Bharat Mahan

This article is not adulation neither an emotional exaggeration of being an Indian. Rather, it contains facts, figures and incidents that justify the sentence Mera Bharat Mahan (My India is great). Contribution of India towards the evolution, survival and growth of global civilization can never be undermined.  In this small article, we will focus only on three points regarding the greatness of India. They are..
Democratic Value
Perhaps, democracy had its root in India. During 6th century BC, there were several Janapadas(states)  in India where chief of the state was elected by the people. After Independence, Indian constitution offered equal voting rights to all its citizens irrespective of their caste, religion, color, creed and occupation from the day one of its inception. If you go through the pages of word history, you will find several tragic stories, bloodbaths and struggles made by women and black people in developed countries like the UK and US to avail voting rights. But in India, equality is an inborn right.  And still with this it has proven all political analysts wrong who have predicted democracy of India would live for a shorter term when India got her freedom.
Peaceful co-existence
India is the only country that never acquired or invaded any other country. Even after independence, India maintained its peaceful co-existence policy with global community perfectly.  All the wars fought by India after the independence was never initiated by India. During Cold War, when the whole world was divided between two super powers (USA and the erstwhile USSR), India started the Non-Alignment Movement. “Live and let live” is the policy that India believes and teaches to the global community.
Forgiveness: our greatest strength
We signed “panchsheel” with China and in return got Indo-China war. We introduced Samjhota Express and in return received the scars of Kargil. However, it was India that took the first step forward to improve bilateral relationship after the end of every war. Perhaps, India is one of the few countries that have not destroyed a single monument or architecture that symbolizes 300 years of colonialism.  “Forgive and let’s march towards a better tomorrow” is the policy in which India believes and this is also one of the reasons why” Mera Bharat Mahan”.
