In some cases greatness is achieved and in few, it is a virtue. As far as India is considered, greatness is a virtue. Greatness is an inherent aspect of India’s culture, tradition, contribution to global community and initiatives in the direction of global peace and co-existence. In this article, we will discuss greatness of India in three aspects.
Contribution to Science
Though there is a widespread notion among the western world regarding prevalence of black magic and superstition among Indians, science has its root and origin India. India taught the world how to count. Modern algebra, calculus and trigonometry have their origin India. As far as astronomy and astrophysics are concerned, India’s contribution is incredible. Ayurveda, the first branch of medical science originated here. First surgery of the world was done in India. Rocket science was first developed and utilized here. And now, 12% of the scientists of USA and 36% of the employees working at NASA are Indians. Harappa is the first planned city of the world. It means, India taught the art of architecture to the world.
Contribution to Literature
Ramayana and Mahabharata are the first epics of the world. Even some critics are of the view that nothing original have been ever written after these two epics. All most all European languages have their origin from Sanskrit. English language is enriched in many ways after Britons came in contact with India and Indian culture. Rabindranath Tagore is the first Asian to achieve the prestigious Noble Award for literature.
Contribution to Democracy
India taught the world how a democracy can sustain even amidst a vast diversity. India, after freedom, became the first country to give equal voting rights to all its citizens from day one. Even though surrounded by neighbors with autocratic and unstable democratic governments, India never witnessed any military revolt or civil war against its democratic system. Indian parliamentary system’s flexibility, superiority and survival are an example for the entire world.
