How many of us have tried to be a grease monkey, while changing our car batteries but ended up being just a monkey who had grease all over him? Many of us for sure! It seems like a daunting task to most of us. And it may seem herculean of a task to those who had all hell broken lose on themselves when they were learning how to drive a car. “If driving is this tough, learning to install a car battery is not at all on my cards would soon popped the response”. However, learning to install the battery isn’t as tough as it sounds in your head. Agreed that working with the mechanics of any vehicle is a tricky business; it’s either a thing you have or you don’t; but what would you do if you’re left stranded in the middle of nowhere because your car battery gave up on you and are left with no other option but to change it by yourself? Call for help? You’ll only attract flesh-hungry scavengers! So stop finicking around and stop hitting your car. Read this article about how to install a car battery, and roll up your sleeves to install one. Here:

Installing a Car Battery
  • Start thinking about the time when you last replaced your car battery or got it replaced via mechanic. If your battery is over 4-5 years old, it may be time to let it go and install a new one.
  • Before taking out your old battery, try the ignition one last time. If there’s a definite audible noise, there might be some problem other than a dead battery. Don’t replace it yet and look for what you can do. But if it doesn’t make any noise, it’s definite that your car battery has died up and it’s time to let it pass on to the afterlife.
  • Make sure you have with you a combination wrench, wire brush or steel wool, and of course, a new battery.
  • First you need to disconnect your old battery’s wires with a combination wrench. Look for two wires, one black and one red, connected to the nuts. Using the wrench, unscrew the nuts and take both the wires out from under them. Then remove the battery clamp that holds the battery in place.
  • Using both your hands and putting all your strength into it, pull up the battery out of your car. Remember that the battery will be heavy and weigh around 40 pounds. Don’t end up falling inside the hood of your car.
  • Now that your battery is out of the battery tray, it’s probably a good time to clean it up using a wire brush or steel wool. Now place a cardboard or some old newspaper in the tray area so as not to get the below of your new battery dirty and scuffed up.
  • Now again using both your hands and putting all your strength into it, pull up the new battery and place it in that tray you just cleaned, on top of the cardboard or newspaper.
  • Reattach the battery - while the red cable belongs to the positive terminal, the black one belongs to the negative terminal. Attach the positive end (red) first, and then the negative end (black) later. Now using the wrench, tighten the nuts to perfection to avoid further stoppages if you’re stuck in a God forsaken place.
  • Your car is now ready to burn rubber. Put the key into ignition as quickly as possible, start it, and accelerate away as fast as you can, lest you get mugged.
Installing a car battery is not like asking a carpenter to perform a surgery over a patient. You can do it and do it right, that to without being a grease monkey!

Often blamed by telecom operators for the death of the SMS, messaging apps gained prominence around the world rather quickly, and continue to dominate app stores. And analysts at Macquarie [a global financial services provider] have estimated that the global user base of messaging apps will grow to 2.9 billion users in 2017 from 1 billion-plus currently. Here, we look at a few often-used options — listed with their number of users — and check out features that have contributed to their popularity.

Line
Number talk: Crossed 400 million registered users in April.
Although voice and video calling as well as the text messaging are its mainstay, it is the app’s selection of stickers that have become a rage. Distinctly Japanese, and sporting manga expressions at times, the range includes popular characters like Pokémon, Doraemon and Hello Kitty as well as some that are well-known around the world, like Donald Duck and Snoopy. Time-limited promotions also take place. For example, Pray for Philippines stickers were available after a devastating typhoon hit the region. The proceeds were donated to help the victims.

Facebook Messenger
Number talk: Crossed 200 million monthy active users in March.
The app is connected to the social network and can tell you who is on Messenger or currently active on Facebook. This allows you to stay updated on latest posts and happenings even on the go. And, in a move that is likely to get more people on the service, the social networking giant confirmed on July 28 that it will be removing the messaging feature from its mobile app over the next few days, and requiring people to use its stand-alone Messenger app instead.

Viber Number talk: Crossed 350 million registered users in June.
What sets this app apart is that it allows users to make unlimited calls or send as many messages as they want to anyone, anywhere in the world — so long as they also have the. And if that doesn’t drive home the point, the app claims that their “sound quality is much better than a regular call (sic)” on its FAQ page.

WhatsApp Number talk: Crossed 500 million active users in April.
Probably the most-used cross-platform messaging app, it won its millions of subscribers by keeping things simple. Replacing the SMS with a two-step set-up process, users can also send group messages, pictures and videos, as well as GPS coordinates. Ad-free for life, there is no charge for using it in the first year. However, one needs to pay $0.99 annually after that. But despite the nominal fee and the fact that video calling is still unavailable, its wide subscriber base makes it a popular option when going in for a messaging app.

BlackBerry Messenger
Number talk: Crossed 160 million registered users in June.
Last year, in a move to win back subscribers who had moved on to newer platforms, BlackBerry announced the roll-out of its instant messaging service, BlackBerry Messenger (BBM), for Android and iOS phones. According to @BBM, more than 10 million downloads took place in the first 24 hours. What works for BBM is the end-to-end encryption that is available. Also, privacy is maintained as one has to approve requests and only then can people be added to chat lists.

Snapchat  Number talk: Crossed 30 million monthly active users in December 2013.
Introduced at a time when privacy concerns dominated newsprint, the app gained instant popularity because users could set a time limit for how long the recipients can view images or videos before they disappeared from their devices. Also, this content was not supposed to be stored on the company’s servers. However, these claims took a severe beating when on May 7, Snapchat settled with the Federal Trade Commission in the US over allegations that it deceived users over the amount of personal data it collected, and was responsible for a security breach that impacted 4.6 million customers.

Hike
Number talk: Crossed 20 million users in June.
There has been buzz around this new entrant for its ability to send messages even when offline. And the question on almost everyone’s mind has been — how does it work? Turns out, one just taps on any undelivered message and selects the kind of offline message you want to send. If you choose to send it via Hike, it’ll go from a VMN (virtual mobile number). Select your own number, and the phone will send an SMS for which you will be charged as per an operator plan.

Telegram Number talk: Crossed 35 million monthly users in March.
The messaging service places a premium on security and allows users to control the level of privacy they want. Those interested in maximum privacy can opt for Secret Chats, featuring end-to-end encryption to ensure that a message can only be read by its intended recipient. As part of this service, nothing is logged on the servers, and one can programme the messages to self-destruct from both devices. And if that’s not enough, servers are spread all over the world for security, and the company claims to deliver messages faster than any other app.

The Sims 4 is certainly going to be one of the most emotionally inspired games coming from Maxis.
For those, who have always enjoyed playing this game, Sims 4 brings a complete treasure of never before emotions. This is the biggest USP of this game – that it is more human than all its other installments. This is a game where you can play god to a number of digital beings, who will be subservient to every one of your whims. Coming this September, your Sims will be much better than ever before. Here’s what emotions they will be able to behold.
Happy – As always, if all your Sim’s needs are fulfilled, it will be happy, satisfied, and content. For this though, you will have to ensure that your Sim is completely happy and all its needs are being met. The longer it takes for the Sim’s needs to be met, the less likely they are of being happy.
Angry – An irritable Sim, lack of social life, a full bladder, a stinky home, hunger and a lot more could upset your Sim. Such a Sim is usually unpleasant to be around and it will not respond well to others. Relationships, work performance, and a lot of other things are affected when your Sim is angry or upset. So always, try to make sure that your Sim remains as happy as possible.
Playful – A playful Sim is usually happy enough to be able to rub its vigor on to others. Fun and games, and a lot of frolic ensue. Playful Sims play with others and make others happy. They are more amenable to improved relationships as well.
Sad – The loss of a loved one, breakup with a partner, being cheated upon, losing a job, losing all money or a visit from the repo man would prevent your Sim from becoming happy for some time. The Sim would be found moping around and would be sad. An unhappy Sim does not indulge in any pleasant activities, hates studying, doing homework or going to work.
Bored – A bored Sim is that which is unable to experience any pleasantries. The Sim requires entertainment, so you would have to do something enjoyable for it. Take your Sim for a movie, play a game, or swim a lap in the pool – anything that would give your Sim a reason to go back to its normal self.
Focused – A focused Sim would learn skills much better than others would. Focused Sims do better in their school or place of work, and are getting success more easily. No matter what skill it is that you want to bet, being focused would help.
Energized – After a good night’s sleep or a cup of espresso, your Sim is raring to go. Energized Sims perform all their tasks well, and are ready to take on a new day.
Dazed – A dazed Sim wants only two things – a cup of espresso or a warm bed to sleep and recharge in. Once your Sim has charged its batteries, it will be up and ready to take on new tasks and challenges.
Flirtatious – Flirty Sims are everybody’s pet. They are outgoing and reach out to other Sims with great ease. They are more likely to forge relationships with others and may take on several lovers.
Some of the other emotions you can expect from your Sims include uncomfortable, inspired, tense, confident, and embarrassed. Have your Sim interact with others and play with their needs to experience every single one of these emotions throughout the course of your game.
A lot of energy and time is spent in the tile-making process. What makes it worse is that the effort, energy and time consumed is far more than the outcome. Sukhranjan Mistry thought to solve this issue and invented a machine that could help tile makers prepare 300 tiles in a day. That too of various designs!
At first look, Sukhranjan Mistry comes across as just another farmer from Uttaranchal. However, this 32-year old man from Shakti farm, Udham Singh Nagar is credited with creating the Foot-Operated Roof Tile-Making Machine.
Traditionally tiles are made manually. It is a time consuming and less productive process, but small tile makers don’t have a choice as they cannot afford the costly machines.

Sukhranjan developed a pedal-operated tile-making machine, which works on the principle of conversion of mechanical energy from pedaling of wheel into vibration of tile on a wooden platform.

Genesis

Sukharanjan’s father didn’t have enough resources to reconstruct the roof of their old house. Sukhranjan first tried to construct tiles with cement but due to insufficient and improper salting, the tiles did not have the requisite strength .
Then one day, during his visit to a nearby town he saw people working with a cold mixture for constructing roads and bridges.

He noticed that a device known as agitator played a central role in making all kinds of cement-based products. So, he thought about incorporating the agitator mechanism for constructing tiles.
Sukhranjan consulted his father and both of them worked hard to design an “agitation table”, having an agitation platform similar to the one used in constructing roads. They used an old cycle tyre rim and just two sticks for making this table.
The most essential part of this innovation was the frame used for making tiles. It took them about 15-20 days to finalize the design of the frame.

Device

The device is a simple foot operated tile-making machine with ergonomic design. The machine is based on the principle of mechanical vibrations for making tiles. The tiles are made using a mixture of cement and river sandstone/sand. The tiles so manufactured can be used for the construction of roofs of buildings and other similar purposes.
The unit comprises of a bicycle wheel, crank, rope-link, pinion, oscillating striking link, polyethylene sheet and supporting frame. Power is supplied from two foot pedals to the crank via a bicycle wheel and rope-linkages. The crank connected with the bicycle wheel rotates as soon as the pedal is operated.

The wheel RPM is integrated to a pinion connected with the striking link which hits the worktable above, thereby constantly agitating the tile mixture. The polyethylene sheet containing the tile mixture is placed on the work platform, and is agitated by constant hitting of the striking link from below.
Continuous striking of the link on to the tile platform causes vibration in the agitator platform and removes air bubbles from the mixture while planning of the tile is done by hand.

Merits

Time taken for making each tile is 1 minute. It is possible to make 300 tiles per day having multiple designs. In addition to this, these tiles cost hardly Rs.3 as against the conventional clay tile that costs Rs.6. They also last for about 60 years as compared to the 20 years life of the clay tile.

Old Fort Niagara was well worth a visit. I am happy they included it in the trip. The old fort in Niagara is at the mouth of river Niagara, and was built there because of the location advantage (mainly to have some control on access to the lakes, and also the route that lead to the heart of the continent). However, the strategic importance of the location lessened after the construction of the Erie Canal.

The history of the old Fort Niagara goes back to 300 years. It was built in 1678. The French were the first to build a post here. The Fort has been under the control of The French, the British, US Army, and it is now under the control of US coast guard.

The history and the structures have been preserved so well that is certainly worth visiting. You may want to visit this site "http://www.oldfortniagara.org" for more information on old Fort Niagara.

Niagara Falls
After getting a nice dose of history we went back to Niagara Falls. I had a few hours to spare before heading back to NYC.

There is a convention center right across the State Park. And among other things, the convention center also hosts events and shows.

I decided to watch a live performance show called the "Thundering Water Cultural Show" based on Niagara . This live performance used dance as a medium to depict how Niagara Falls impacted the lives of Native Americans and their culture. It was quite a good show, unfortunately, I could not get a seat in the front so the view was obstructed and I couldn't quite take snaps. But I was happy to catch the show.

Areas around the Falls
There was still a lot of snow in Niagara Falls in May

I went back to the Niagara Falls to enjoy the Niagara Falls. I still had 2 hours since our bus was waiting for some passengers from Canada. I enjoyed spending time there. The best part was the State Park provided free access to Wifi. Sitting right next to the falls and connecting with my family and friends, sending them pictures of the falls real-time through the internet was so great! It was a wonderful experience of using technology in such natural surroundings!
My trip ended as adventurously as it had begun. Our bus broke down and by the time I got to China Town it was 12.30, well past midnight! I was all prepared to stay back in NYC that night but I did not know anyone there and wasn't where sure about checking into a hotel that late at night. From Penn station it would take me another hour by the transit train to reach New Jersey. After waiting for a while I found a cab that dropped me to Penn station. Once inside the station it was almost as if it was 7 pm in the evening! It was brimming with people. I felt so safe. That is what I like about NYC! I boarded the next train and reached NJ around 2 pm! My poor friend had to crawl out of bed at that God forsaken hour and pick me up from the station! No cab services there:(

In the end I did make it back in one piece happy to have seen Niagara and so many other amazing things. Here is a “Quotation” from the Beatles song "The End" that I wish to leave you with. I found this next to the Hard Rock cafe near the Niagara Falls state park.

One of my favorite lines from a Beatles song
